Matheran has garnered a reputation of one of the most favourite hill-stations around Mumbai for various reasons. The bountiful rains, lush greenery and waterfalls around. Sarasgad is situated on the borders of Pali. A very huge wall of Sarasgad is at the north south border of Pali. This fort was mainly used to keep a check on the surrounding regions. From fort, ‘Pali’ and all surrounding areas can be seen. The fort is named after saint Goraknath, who used to perform penance here. It was used in the era of Shivaji Maharaj, mainly as a stopover point from Junnar via Naneghat. The adjoining Machindragad peak is named after the teacher-disciple relationship of Machindranath and Gorakhnath. During monsoon season, the Gorakhgad Trek takes on a whole new appearance. While there, take a moment to observe, listen and smell and you will feel the forest come alive around you. The view of the numerous cascading waterfalls and a large range of wildflowers only add to its charm. Kothaligad is situated in Karjat district. The height of this fort is approx. 3000 ft above sea level. There is a small temple and a large cave at the base and a chimney-like tunnel to the top of the fort. This pinnacle is carved from inside forming a staircase reaching the top. The stone is a single black expanse reaching till the Peth village standing on the fertile soil with abundant natural resources for water and farming. The locals say that this is not actually a fort but a sort of lighthouse from where the directions were given to know the advancements of the enemy. In fact, it can be called a watch tower to keep a vigil on the Mawal area in the greater province of the Marathas. Duke’s Nose (Nagphani) appears almost inaccessible, but it is a surprisingly simple trek to reach the summit from the southern approach. The trekker is rewarded with amazing views of the Mumbai-Pune Road and rail corridors, as well as great views of Khandala and the surrounding Sahyadri peaks. Duke’s Nose trek to considered to be one of the most scenic treks of Maharashtra.

Peb fort derives its name from the Goddess 'Pebi'. It is also called Vikatgad because its pinnacle is supposedly in the shape of the Elephant headed god - Ganesha. Historical references clearly indicate that Shivaji Maharaj used the caves on the fort as silos for grain storage. The cave on the fort is occupied by disciples of Swami Samarth, a great saint. They have contributed a lot to development on this fort from last ten years. They have managed successfully to keep the cave and the fort clean, and maintained the dignity of the fort. The fort lies in the Matheran range itself and is adjacent to Matheran.

Lohagad fort, also known as the Iron Fort is located close to the hill station Lonavala and is 52km northwest of Pune. It is a typical consideration by a lot of beginner trekkers as it is an easy grade trek, but it doesn’t disappoint any experienced climbers either, thanks to the lush greenery and inviting weather during the monsoon. It overlooks the Pawna reservoir which is located to the south of the mountain. The fort is loaded with a lot of historical significance and is one of the hill forts of Maharashtra.
